This temple complex was started to build in  856 A.D.These temples' architecture and sculpture have Hindu and Buddhist elements.  
An earlier dominant Hindu dynasty in this area was expelled by a new Buddhist dynasty. 
100 years later, a descendant of former Hindu dynasty gain the power by means of marriage with a princess of the Buddhist dynasty, he built these temples for commemoration of acquiring power again.
