종교유산에 관심이 있는 여행자 열 명에게 물었다. 세상에서 가장 아름다운 로만카톨릭 사원이 어디냐고. 

그 열 명 중 아홉 명이 몬트리얼 노트르담 바실리카라고 대답했다. 

일반인들에게 똑같은 질문을 했을 때, 그들은 바티칸 성 베드로 대성당이라든가 밀라노 두오모 대성당을 먼저 떠 올릴지 모르겠다. 

로만카톨릭 사원의 원조나라 이탤리 여행자들이 파리 노트르담 성당은 안 가봐도 몬트리얼에 있는 노트르담 바실리카를 관람하기 위해서는 기꺼이 대서양을 건넌다. 

일년에 1 천 2 백 만 명에 달하는 관광객이 이 성당을 찾아온다. 

부활절 주간에 몬트리얼 노트르담 바실리카를 찾았다. 작년에 이어 두 번 째다. 

기왕이면 미사에도 참석하는 게 좋다. 성당 내부관람과 아우라쇼는 예약하고 들어가면 되지만, 7 천 개의 파이프오르간이 발산해내는 장엄한 연주를 감상하기 위해서는 일요일 미사에 참석하는 방법밖에 없다.  

오랫동안 사원에 머물렀음에도 불구하고 예수선생과 접신하는데는 실패했다. 

대신 천만뜻밖에도 마리아 여사와 영혼대화를 나눌 기회를 가졌다. 

여기서 말하는 마리아 여사는 예수선생의 수제자였던 Magdalene, Maria (막달라 마리아)를 말한다. 

예수선생의 생모 Nazareth, Maria (나자렛 마리아) 라든가, 1980 년대 National Homeless Association (NHA) 회장을 지내며 미국에서 전설적인 구걸의 여왕으로 이름을 날렸던 Deodalan, Maria (더달란 마리아)와는 다른 마리아이므로 혼동하면 안된다. 

마리아 여사와 나는 생각의 일치점이 분명했다. 

우리가 결코 다른 무엇에 의해 창조될 수 없는, ‘스스로 존재하는 그 자체’ 라는 예수선생의 설파에 견해를 같이하는 동지로서 가벼운 대화를 나누었다.   

여사와의 대화는 영어로 진행되었는데, 그 대화의 전문은 다음과 같다. 

나 : It's not important, but I would like to ask a rude question first. Please forgive me. Were you guys just a guru and a follower? Or was it a kind of romantic relationship?

마리아 : Well, that may or may not be the case, depending on the point of view. Among the followers who followed Jesus at that time, it seemed that Thomas and I were the only ones who understood what he said. Rather than treating me as a woman, I think he trusted me a lot as the only friend I could communicate with. 

나 : What did you witness that Sunday morning (the Sunday two days after Jesus was executed)? I'm asking what happened to Jesus in his grave early in the morning after the Sabbath (Saturday) after he was crucified.

마리아 : I would like to avoid answering that question because answering the story in modern language can be misleading.

나 : The best description of your sightings is John 20:16. The reason I have to ask you the question is because your sightings in the Gospel of John are very specific.

마리아 : Jesus was a person who knew the nature of the universe and the divinity that was latent core in a human.

나 : You said that you were almost the only follower, (sorry, I don't use a tacky word like disciple anymore) who understood Jesus' words properly, but does orthodox Christianity's belief such as the theory of salvation and atoning death of Christ fit with Jesus' teachings?

마리아: I personally have no idea where those kinds of bullshit theories came from. I don't even understand why those retarded ideas appeared. What is clear is that I understood everything Jesus said to me during his life, and that can be summarized in the words as follows.

"Realize the divinity within yourself, and live a life of good with everything."

You're the only one in the world! That's where all the truth starts. Nobody can teach you. You are the only one who can guide you to the truth. Do not misunderstand the meaning of “No one goes to God without me!” The same goes for the word. Here, 'I' refers to the ‘thinking existence’ itself within each of you and me.
