Travel North rail line to close Sept 16-Oct 31 The northern rail route between Sila-at station in Phrae's Den Chai district and Chiang Mai will be closed for 45 days from Sept 16-Oct 31 for repairs, State Railway of Thailand governor Prapat Chongsa-nguan confirmed on Monday.Published: 09/09/2013 at 11:38 AMWriter: Online ReportersMr Prapat said the repairs would include reinforcement of  the rail track and sleepers at four spots, both in open areas and in tunnels, to win back passengers' confidence in rail services.There have been 13 derailments on the northern  line this year, between Phrae and Lampang provinces, where the foundation of the rail track, which is very old, has been eroded by heavy rains, floods and landslips.The SRT originally planned to close the northern rail route in November for repairs.  But the latest train derailment, between Ban Ping and Kaeng Luang railway stations in Lamphun and Lamphang provinces, caused  the SRT to to bring forward the date, he said.The repairs will cost about 2.8 billion baht, with the funding already  already approved by the cabinet.Specially arranged buses will carry passengers between Sila-at  and Chiang Mai during the closure
